Assessing the biodiversity of your real estate projects: an independent, evidence-based approach

Biodiversity Performance Score

Biodiversity Performance Score

In a context where biodiversity is becoming a strategic issue, but where declarative scores and sectoral labels are still dominant, the BPS offers another way forward: measure, document, prove.

A rigorous, independent, evidence-based assessment to structure your biodiversity commitments and secure your approach in the eyes of funders, local authorities and investors.

Why is measuring not declaring?

Many existing systems are based on declarative or self-assessment approaches, sometimes carried out by the very players they are assessing.

The BPS stands out for its methodological requirements: an independent assessment, with no confusion between consulting, design and measurement.

Structuring biodiversity commitments, even without certification

A demanding label

based on a rigorous, verifiable reference system

Clear notation

based on verifiable indicators

An educational and operational tool

to structure biodiversity in projects

A structuring alternative for voluntary approaches

The BPS enables project owners to :
  • Structure their biodiversity approach, even without going as far as certification,
  • Promote their commitments to partners, investors and local authorities,
  • Initiate a results-oriented culture, in line with real ecological challenges.
💬 It is aimed primarily at development projects, CSR strategies and real estate companies wishing to structure their biodiversity commitments in a measurable way.

A technical repository based on the work of the BSC

As with Effinature certification, the BPS is based on a set of standards drawn up by the Biodiversity Standard Council (BSC).
This :
  • Is structured around objective indicators,
  • Takes into account urban, architectural, ecological and usage issues,
  • Is regularly updated in line with scientific and regulatory advances.
🎯 BPS can facilitating the transition to certification for project owners wishing to reinforce their biodiversity commitments.

Neutral, standardized evaluation

Obtaining the BPS label is based on :
  1. A documentary and technical audit, carried out by IRICE,
  2. An objective assessment of performance, based on a transparent rating grid,
  3. An overall score, accompanied by an evaluation report.
The label is independently awarded by IRICE.

❌ It does not constitute certification, and cannot be used as a substitute for certification in institutional, regulatory or financial contexts.

Towards certification? An easier transition

💬 "We designed the BPS to serve as a springboard to Effinature."

  • BPS indicators are aligned with the fundamentals of certification,
  • Switching from BPS to Effinature can be done seamlessly, without having to start from scratch,
  • In this way, clients can gradually move towards an accredited standard, as their requirements or regulatory obligations evolve.
The BPS thus avoids the pitfall of displaying claims without proof. It provides project managers with a serious, documented and credible foundation - a prerequisite for any move towards certification, should it prove appropriate.
